🐇 8: Filling up vs topping up
Running fasted is a great way to teach your body to metabolize fat as fuel.
If you don’t learn to monitor your energy levels, it can end in the inevitable “bonk” - hitting the wall of zero energy.
To haul yourself out of that hole is difficult.
I’ll never start a race fasted, though. It’s easier to start well-fueled (big bowl of oats), and then keep topping up with bars, etc. as the race progresses.
Burnout is the ‘life-equivalent’ of bonking. It’s your body saying enough is enough. It - too - is a difficult hole to drag yourself out of.
Keep topped up (motivated) by making sure you’re getting enough:
Sleep;
Nutrition;
Happiness.
My best tools for doing that:
Naps, evening wind-down, routine;
Vegetable-based diet;
Planning and doing something exciting every day, surrounding myself with people who make me happy.
